Punting Event Options

Punting on the scenic Avon River is a relaxing experience perfect for various events, and several options are available for groups. From corporate outings or conference breaks to spoiling your hard-working team or celebrating a special occasion with friends, a punt ride is a great way to unwind.

Carols on the Avon

Join us for a festive punt ride with our Carols on the Avon events taking place on Saturday 7 & Saturday 14 December!

Back for a fourth year, our team will be punting local performers playing yuletide carols along the river while guests are punted alongside to listen on a 30-minute tour departing from the Antigua Boat Sheds. This event is once again being held in conjunction with the Salvation Army.

Seats are strictly limited with two punts departing at 11am, 12pm and 1pm each day to punt alongside the performers, so bookings are essential (and wearing Christmas attire is encouraged!)

Private Charter from Antigua Boat Sheds

The Antigua Boat Sheds is one of Christchurch’s oldest and most recognizable buildings, and private hire of punts is available from this site in addition to our standard 30-minute shared rides. Private charters run for 30 minutes and are available for groups as well as for couples looking for a romantic outing. Glide along the river through the tranquil Botanic Gardens and relax, taking in the flora and wildlife. These charters are subject to availability.

For groups looking for catering options, these are available from the neighboring Boat Shed Cafe.

Private Charter from Worcester Bridge

Situated on the City Promenade, our Worcester Bridge departure point is just a few steps from Te Pae Christchurch. Punts are currently available only for private hire from this location outside of the summer season when public tours operate Friday – Sunday, and this is a wonderful activity to see the city and enjoy the fresh air and time out from a conference or other event. Enjoy punting down the river through Victoria Square and past the Town Hall through to Margaret Mahy Playground. Tours then return to disembark opposite the Christchurch Town Hall.
